It has been a bit since I've updated. I wish I had lots of exciting reasons why this is the case, but alas, I can not. Really not a lot different has been going on in the world of education for me. Luckily today changes all of that! Not only can I say that I have put in another job application, but I will also be able to start teaching next week!
Yes, you read right. Mrs. Kelly will be teaching rising fourth graders in summer school this year. I'm excited about this for many reasons. The first being "Yay, I have a job!" I know, I know, it's a temporary, five-week long position, but it is a job none the less in the field in which I have spent many hours working towards. I am excited to have a chance to use my skills and stretch my wings a little more. Also I have a washing machine that needs to be replaced so this will take a little stress off that.
The next is "I'm getting experience!" My resume is, how do you say, pathetic. Ok, pathetic might be an exaggeration or an over simplification of my lack of teaching experience. What I have is good, I'm just lacking in quantity. I've heard many people say it's easier to get a job if you have a job. Well world, I have two jobs now, so where is my full time teaching position?
Finally, "I'm going to be able to help students!" This might just be the most important reason and we do like to save the best for last right? I went to school to do this so I could help students be better. I figure as long as I keep that in the forefront of my mind, then I will always decide to do my best. That is what kids need isn't it? Adults giving them their best? As a parent I give my kids the best and I am going to try my hardest as a teacher to do the same.
Anyway, that was my week, or day, and I can't wait for next week to get here! I'll update more often since there will actually be something to update about now! :)

Endings and Beginnings
All things have a beginning. My beginning, like many others, starts with an ending. After years of soul searching, classes, and much time away from my family I can now say that the Commonwealth of Virginia recognizes me as an educator. Yes, I am now a licensed, unemployed teacher. My old life is ending, and now my new life is beginning. So like everyone else, I'm sure you're read to say, "good for you, now what?" Now what indeed. My life is full of filling out job applications as well as working at my current job and raising my family. Why have I decided to add a blog to the mix? Some may say I'm a glutton for punishment, others will tell you that I can't appreciate down time. My intentions are to provide a space for my students and their families to keep up on what is going in in the classroom and to hopefully meet and share ideas with other teachers and help myself stay in the proverbial loop. I don't think there are enough ways to say just how excited I am about this new chapter in my life. Follow along and offer encouragement and ideas along the way. For now I am limited in what I can post, as so much of my future is up in the air, but I am certain that will change soon.
